Just because your boat is a used one, doesn’t mean it has to look like it. With a little bit of elbow grease, you can make your boat look shiny and new – just in time for your next boating adventure! Here are a few tips on how to make your used boat look like new.

Give It a Good Wash

You’d be surprised at how much of a difference a good wash can make to a used boat. Start by pressure washing the hull to remove any dirt, grime, or salt build-up. Next, use a mild soap and sponge to wash the rest of the vessel. Don’t forget to rinse it off completely!

Wax Your Craft

Waxing protects your boat’s gel coat from the sun’s UV rays, as well as salt water and air pollution. It also makes it easier to clean next time. Apply wax with an orbital polisher in circular motions. Let it dry for 15 minutes before wiping it off with a clean, dry cloth.

Polish Metal Fixtures

Metal fixtures on your vessel can wear out over time from salt water and sun exposure. To polish them, first clean them with soap and water. Then apply metal polish with a soft cloth, working in small circles until the desired shine is achieved. Rinse with fresh water and dry off completely.

Replace Faded Vinyl Cushions

Faded or ripped vinyl cushions can really make a boat look outdated. Consider giving them a facelift with some spray-on vinyl dye. If they’re too far gone, replace them altogether. New vinyl cushions will not only make your boat look nicer, but they’ll be more comfortable, too.

Making your used boat look like new doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. With a little bit of TLC, you can have your boat looking great in no time.
