Company Background

Richard “Dick” Fisher founded Boston Whaler® in 1958 in Rockland, Massachusetts. His first model was revealed at the New York Boat Show and it was a small 13’ Whaler boat. Over the next few years, Boston Whaler® boats expanded significantly and took over a great portion of the market, including the securing of contracts with the United States government and military during the Vietnam War.

By 1987, it was time for Boston Whaler® to reestablish itself further south, with the construction of a much bigger manufacturing facility in Edgewater, Florida. The company headquarters followed in 1993, but the name and legacy stuck. The company has been awarded many times, including receiving the 2014 Boating magazine Boat of the Year award for its 420 Outage model. 

Unsinkability

Boston Whaler® prides itself on constructing boats that are practically unsinkable. In 1961, Dick Fisher posed in one of his boats for Life magazine while the boat was being sawn in half.
